The Tribal Odyssey Course


The School offers a dynamic and colourful Tribal Odyssey course in authentic Gambian music and dance. It is interactive in presentation. You embark on a colourful vibrant odyssey through the diverse tribal groups of The Gambia, such as the Jolas, Mandika, Fula, etc. The course is designed for those with a vivid interest in ethnic music and dance and tailors your enthusiasm with all the joys of an exotic holiday in The Gambia.

School Objective

The School objective entails promoting the diverse intricate tribal cultural tapestry of Gambian music and dance. This is achieved through leisure and fun. It aims to combine all the joys of an exotic African vacation with the excitement of experiencing the rich tapestry of The Gambia’s tribal groups through vibrant music and dance.

The Griot Tradition

Griots are the traditional gatekeepers of African folklore. Yankuba Konte is a Mandika Griot. His lyrical musical skill is passed from generation to generation. He is the course supervisor. The Griot tradition is a verbal narrative history; as such there is no written material on the course. The course is conducted very much on a hands on basis. You will b e expected to pick up the Kora and play the drums through an interactive process. There is no written material for the course. You will find it spontaneous, colourful and exhilarating.
